On 8 January, the world has commemorated Elvis Presley and, more precisely, the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s birthday. If Presley was still alive, he would have turned 78 in 2013. Elvis Presley was born on 8 January 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi. At the age of 13 he has moved to Memphis, Tennessee with his family where in 1954 he began his career by recording his first song “That’s All Right” at Sun Studio. In 1957, Elvis Presley bought Graceland-his beloved home and the centre of celebrations for his 78th birthday today. Hundreds of fans of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll gathered Tuesday and watched how the 13-year-old Isabella Scott cuts a birthday cake on the lawn at Graceland. Scott leads an Internet-based Elvis Presley fan club with more than 2,000 members. The mayors of Memphis and Shelby County read a proclamation of Elvis Presley Day during the ceremony, attended by fans from Brazil, England, France, Japan, Spain and the U.S. Earlier, on Saturday, the Memphis Symphony Orchestra presented a concert commemorating the 40th anniversary of Elvis’ landmark “Aloha from Hawaii” show. American media report that on the day Elvis Presley would have turned 78, the Graceland tourist attraction, which is across the street from the mansion, has opened a new exhibition about the King’s movies and concerts in Hawaii. www.neurope.eu/
