Upcoming Graceland Exhibits to Celebrate Elvis Presley's Connection to Hawaii and Las Vegas
Two new Elvis Presley exhibitions focusing on Hawaii and Las Vegas — two locations of great significance to the late King of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s life and career — will open at Graceland in Memphis in the coming months. The first exhibit, titled “Elvis’ Hawaii: Concerts, Movies and More!” will debut next month in conjunction with Graceland’s annual January 8 birthday celebration for the King. The display will commemorate the 40th anniversary of Presley’s historic TV special Aloha from Hawaii, and will feature a variety of memorabilia related to that program, as well as to the movies Elvis filmed in the state and the concerts he played there. Among the interesting highlights of the exhibition are a collection of jumpsuits from Elvis’ performances in Hawaii, rare film footage of the singer on a boat en route to the islands, clips from his first Hawaiian concert and collectible items from the movies Blue Hawaii and Paradise, Hawaiian Style. The second exhibition, “Elvis: Live from Vegas,” will open on March 1, and will focus on Presley’s connection to Sin City. This display will include many of the outfits the King wore at his various engagements in Vegas, as well as a section of the original marquee that advertised the singer’s early concerts there at the New Frontier Hotel in 1957. The exhibit will also offer a variety of other artifacts and items from the time Presley spent in Las Vegas.
