Aug 2012 Plant City police probe $4,000 theft at Elvis festival PLANT CITY -- By all accounts, the recent Elvis Presley festival at the Florida Strawberry Festival was a big success. The event attracted 21 Elvis performers, 400 fans and brought in an about $8,000 through ticket sales. But about half the money is missing. Festival organizer Vickie May reported the theft to the Plant City Police Department last week after realizing that a box containing some of the ticket proceeds was unaccounted for. She's not sure, but she estimated more than $4,000 was missing. "It was such a perfect event and to have this happen is just heartbreaking," she said. About $3,500 was turned in, but May said she'll have to scramble for donations to be able to stage next year's festival, she said. Plant City police Capt. John Borders said his agency is looking into the theft but has made no arrests. May said she's trying to look on the bright side. The festival was in its 10th year, attendance was better than ever, and the festival was in a great setting, she said. www2.tbo.com/news/plant-city/2012/aug/06/plant-city-police-probe-4000-theft-at-elvis-festiv-ar-452535/
