Antiquorum held the second part of its Important Modern and Vintage Timepieces auction in New York earlier this week, with almost 80% of lots sold and 116% sold by value and Elvis Presley’s Omega Constellation selling for $52,500 (£33,851). The auction bought in a total $4.4 million (£2.8m), with international bidders from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Canada, Germany and the US. The highlight of the sale was the much anticipated Omega Constellation that formerly belonged Elvis Presley. Antiquorum said bids for the timepiece quickly escalated from $10,000 to $52,500, over five times its pre-sale estimate and a world record for the reference. Evan Zimmerman, president and chief executive of Antiquorum said: “We are exceptionally pleased with the result for Elvis Presley’s Omega Constellation in today’s sale. “Antiquorum is proud to add to its growing list of world records for timepieces with important provenance that includes Gandhi’s Zenith pocket watch, Steve McQueen’s Rolex and Einstein’s Longines.” The top lot by value was a Patek Philippe Ref. 5016, a tourbillon minute repeater with custom grey dial. Two phone bidders vied for the rare timepiece with it eventually selling to a Chinese phone bidder for an impressive $542,500 (£349,670). Patek Philippe including the Ref. 3974 in yellow gold, a minute-repeating perpetual calendar timepiece, and a Patek Philippe Ref. 5885, Ref. 5098, the “Gondolo,” Ref. 5098 and the Ref. 5036 also bought in noteworthy bids. An A. Lange and Sohne “Pour le Merite” in yellow gold sold for $188,500 (£121,508), while a Ulysse Nardin Trilogy of Time watch attracted “spirited bidding”. Antiquorum’s next auction is on June 23rd in Hong Kong. www.watchpro.com/13576-elvis-presleys-omega-sells-for-usd-52500/
